At the Met Galla, the biggest Fashion testimony of the year, wild and interesting outfits are applauded, and for this year’s theme “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an age of technology”, the gents did not hold back! While some opted for a real dress-up, here are the best tuxedo looks of the red carpet.

Tom Hiddleston
Tom Hiddelston Ralph Lauren Purple Label

Hiddleston looks impeccable in Ralph Lauren Purple Label. Perfectly tailored, and extra points for the traditional tail coat, which seemed to be a popular choice for the evening!

Jared Leto

Jared Leto in Gucci

Jared Leto is up there with the boldest gents of the night, yet carrying his Gucci tux with style. To replace a bow tie, Leto sports a silver brooch with blue details, the way only he can. Our tip is to opt for a bib on the shirt next time, to avoid a sheer look!

Idris Elba

Batman Vs. Superman – The Battle Of The Real Suits

It is all about superheroes and their suits this month! Let’s all take a break from our daily duties, and pay homage to Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck for their roles as the man of steel and the dark knight, in their new movie Batman Vs. Superman. Now, the battle of the superheroes are on everyone’s lips, but the only question we are concerned about is which one of these gents win the prize as the most dapper. So who is the best dressed man, Henry Cavill or Ben Affleck?

The Gray Suit

The gents tend to sport to very different looks, as portrayed below. Henry Cavill dressed  up in a light gray end-on-end suit, paired with a wide grenadine tie in a double windsor knot, to match his cutaway collar. Ben Affleck aims for a more simplistic style, and pairs a charcoal gray suit with a small forward point collar and a skinny tie. Both look terrific, but we favor Affleck’s simplistic style.

Cavill Affleck Gray Suit

The 3-piece Suit

Ben Affleck Sports a solid navy 3-piece suit with a green tie, and we love the subtle look, but Henry Cavill looks ravishing in tapered, pinstriped 3-piece, paired with a tie to draw extra attention.

The Tuxedo

The choice is again between the flashy, confident style, and the subtle gentleman look. Cavill’s large bow tie is a perfect match for his tuxedo’s wide lapels, and makes the perfect classic look. Affleck, however, wins this round, in his modern tuxedo with silk edge lapels, and minimalistic bow tie. Notice how they both sport a covered placket instead of studs!

Red Carpet: The Oscars 2016

We are all excited for the winners of the 88th Academy Awards, but we were just as excited for the fashion! The stars sported everything from gorgeous classics, to risky and fun colors. Check out our best dressed list!

Leonardo DiCaprio

DiCaprio won the Academy award for best actor, and wore a bulletproof, classic tuxedo outfit for his big night. To finish off, he wore a pair of patent leather shoes, making a balance between classic and flashy. We like!

Leonardo Dicaprio

Sam Smith

The talented musician who also won an Academy award for best song, has been rocking vests for his formal attires lately, and we continue to love it! This black vest makes a slight twist to a classic look.

Sam Smith

Ryan Seacrest

The gray blazer is a winner! Ryan Seacrest, who usually swears to a classic style, hit a jackpot in this gray tuxedo jacket, and stood out on the red carpet this year.

Ryan Seacrest

Michael Strahan

Michael Strahan took the color of the season to a whole new level, and we are crazy about the look! Granted that not everyone can carry a tuxedo as bold as this, Michael looks impeccable. Notice how the tie, which matches the lapels, tones the look down, as opposed to what a bow tie would have.

Michael Strahan

Dev Patel

The navy blue suit is a classic, yet a super dapper look. We also choose to give credit for Dev Patel’s scruffy look, adding a little edge to the equation. Way to go!

2 Gingham Shirts: Fabrics To Style With Any Outfit

A gingham shirt is a wardrobe staple. The fabric should have a versatile style, so that it can be put to use whether you are wearing a formal suit and tie, a cardigan, or want to go for an all casual outfit. Here are two multicolored gingham fabrics that we absolutely adore!

Red And Blue Gingham Shirt

We dare you to find a suit in your wardrobe that doesn’t match this shirt. It can easily be styled with colors like navy, charcoal, black, light gray, or anything that doesn’t involve a brown hue. This shirt is styled with a button down mini collar, so while still making room for your favorite skinny tie, it holds up perfectly if you want to skip the tie. The oxford weave makes the white collar extra sharp.

The Blue Plaid Suit

Leave it up to a powdered navy suit with a plaid pattern to make things interesting. The reason why this gem of a look works, is due to the small variation is blue shades, which leaves the suit at a classic style to pair with printed tie, and a even a white contrast collar.

How To Rock French Cuffs Without a Tie

Can French cuffs be worn without a tie? Now that is a question we’ve been asked several times. The answer is simple. Yes. Whether you are going out on Friday night, or to work on Monday morning, you can wear French cuffs. A French cuff dress shirt actually follows the same rules and could be worn in the same places as a barrel cuff shirt. Cufflinks are merely just an opportunity for a man to personalize his wardrobe, and some men use them as a signature. The question remains how to choose the look that suits you best.

How To Wear French Cuffs

Don’t be a poser: Find that look which says “I got this”. Your confidence can only shine through if you incorporate various looks into your own style. If you are not used to wearing cufflinks at all, don’t overdo it. Are French cuffs already your forte, then be careful not to dress your look down too much.

Find a balance: The key is refinement. If you are sporting your most colorful shirt, it should not be paired up with flashy cufflinks. Are you going for a white shirt, the look might benefit from some nice detailed cufflinks to draw the attention.

Make sure your shirt fits: A French cuff is a beautiful detail, but there is nothing worse than a badly tailored shirt to go with it. Nothing says “I have no idea what I’m trying to do” like a loose fitted shirt with baggy sleeves.

French cuffs no tie

Picking The Right Cufflinks

Choose the right look: If you are sporting a suit, go for high end metals such as gold or silver. The intentional lack of a tie should not be a reason to skimp on the rest of the details. Choose pair of lower end metal cufflinks for a business casual work attire, and always keep a pair of silk knots for your a casual weekend look.

Colors are your weapon: Think about what colors you implement your look with. The silk knots will give you the perfect opportunity to play around with this exact detail. A great tip is to use colors that mean something to you, for instance, your school colors. Picture that someone notices the colors – it will be the perfect conversation-starter.

Tone down the irony: The joking cufflinks should be limited to once in a blue moon. You don’t want to appear as “that guy with those crazy cufflinks”.

The Perfect Weekend Look With French Cuffs

The blue gingham shirt works just as well at the office as it does for the weekend, and can easily be styled with french cuffs and a pair of subtle cufflinks. Since this pattern is quite loud, you do want to stick with subtle details. As previously mentioned, if the shirt is white, feel free to sport some edgier pieces. Notice that this look is styled with silk knots, for the perfect weekend getaway look.

The Golden Days of Portofino

In the Province of Genoa, on the Italian riviera, lies the tiny fishing village turned ultimate travel destination. Portofino’s pastel colors, narrow streets, fashion, luxury and faces can still enchant just about anyone that would set as much as foot on the dock.

The town is famous for its colorful buildings that are all clustered around its tiny harbor, overlooking the Tigullio Gulf in the Mediterranean sea.

Portifino vibes

It was by the end of the 19th century that British aristocrats would begin traveling to the Italian town for leisure purposes. As it became a fashion, and a growing number of vacation homes were built on this very location, by the 1950’s, Portofino had reached its golden era.

It is said that actor Rex Harrison was the celebrity to really discover Portofino, and was the first star on the Hollywood sky to buy an estate in the tiny, romantic harbor. Then celebrities such as Clark Gable, Liz Taylor, Ingrid Bergmann, Humphrey Bogart, Marlon Brando, and Sophia Loren would be drawn to the glamorous a vacation spot, and it quickly became the place to see and be seen.

Today Portofino remains a popular destination for the rich and famous, as celebrities enjoy a vacation of the more low key kind at this destination. The glamour of the 1950’s can clearly still be detected.

The romantic atmosphere of Portofino is remains inevitable, and by 1958, “Love in Portofino”, sung and directed by Fred Buscaglione, would forever manifest this little town by the water as the perfect gem to vacation with a special someone.
